Description

The Isle of Harris in northern Scotland is actually more known for peaty whiskey. Since 2015 the Isle of Harris Distillery has been producing the gin of the same name, which is supposed to be a homage to the island. It is distilled in an old copper still affectionately known as “The Dottach”. By the way, the name comes from a rather bitter, nagging woman from Tarbert, the place where the distillery is located. In addition to the classic botanicals such as juniper, coriander, angelica and iris root, pepper, bitter orange peel, licorice and cassia cinnamon bark, the Isle of Harris Gin also uses sugar kelp for flavoring. This is harvested by a diver in the kelp forests of the Outer Hebrides and gives the gin a salty, maritime touch. Maritime is also the motto of the bottles: plain and simple in design, but with a slightly roughened and rippled relief, it is intended to represent the restless Luskentyre Sea.
